Creamy Smoked Paprika Chicken Sandwich

If you’re looking for an easy sandwich that’s packed with flavor, this creamy smoked paprika chicken sandwich is worth a try. I have been obsessed with this sandwich lately. It’s simple to make, requires minimal prep, and turns a few everyday ingredients into something that feels extra satisfying.

The chicken is well seasoned, then simmered in heavy cream until tender and flavorful. The smoked paprika gives the chicken a lovely smoky depth, while the cream brings everything together into a rich, savory filling.

The best part of this sandwich is the mozzarella on top. I love using a kitchen torch to melt the cheese until it’s bubbly with charred edges. That subtle roasted, smoky taste pairs beautifully with the smoked paprika in the chicken, making every bite even more delicious.

This sandwich is perfect for a quick lunch, an easy dinner, or whenever you’re craving something comforting without spending too much time in the kitchen.

A Few Tips:

1. Let the chicken marinate. Even 15 minutes makes a difference! It gives the chicken time to absorb the spices, making every bite more flavorful.

2. Keep the heat low when adding the cream. Once you pour in the heavy cream, reduce the heat and let the sauce simmer gently. This helps it thicken without boiling too vigorously.

3. Use a kitchen torch for extra flavor. My favorite trick is to torch the mozzarella until it’s melted and lightly charred. Those slightly smoky, toasted edges complement the smoked paprika beautifully. If you don’t have a torch, use your oven’s broiler instead.

4. Don’t skip the fresh basil. A few fresh basil leaves add a lovely, fresh aroma that balances the rich, creamy sauce and smoky spices.

Ingredients

  • 400 g skinless chicken thighs (diced)
  • ¼ white onion (diced)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp cumin
  • ¾ tsp smoked paprika
  • ¼ tsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ tsp dried basil
  • 100 ml heavy cream
  • ½ tbsp butter
  • Butter buns or your favorite sandwich buns
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

  • In a bowl, combine the chicken with salt, garlic powder, black pepper, cumin, smoked paprika, onion powder, tomato paste, dried basil, and olive oil. Mix well and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  • Melt the butter in a hot pan over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for 2–3 minutes, until soft and translucent.
  • Add the marinated chicken and cook for about 3 minutes on each side, or until golden and cooked through.
  • Pour in the heavy cream and reduce the heat to low. Let everything simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly and coat the chicken.
  • Spoon the creamy chicken onto your sandwich buns and top generously with mozzarella cheese. Melt the cheese with a kitchen torch, or place the sandwiches under the broiler at 190°C (375°F) for about 2 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Garnish with a few fresh basil leaves, if desired, and enjoy while warm!
